What is Notice of Correction (NoC)?

A short statement added to a credit report to explain an entry.

Definition

A consumer can ask a credit reference agency to add a notice explaining the context of information on the file. It does not remove accurate negative information or guarantee that a lender will accept the explanation, and it can cause an application to require manual review.

Practical example

A notice might explain the circumstances behind a disputed or exceptional missed payment while the underlying entry remains visible.

Why it matters

Correct inaccurate data through the proper dispute process rather than using a notice as a substitute for correction.
