Completed residential transactions

HMRC counted 96,250 UK residential transactions in August 2026 before seasonal adjustment, and 95,220 after adjustment. That month is still provisional. These are completions of £40,000 or above, not mortgage approvals and not prices.

How to read the units

House purchase approvals (LPMVTVX) are a count of approvals, seasonally adjusted. The value series is sterling millions, not a count. Net secured lending is the monthly change in sterling millions, and it can fall. Do not add these together.

The effective rate on new advances (CFMBJ95) is not the same series as the effective rate on outstanding balances (CFMHSDE). Outstanding balances include older fixes, so that rate usually moves more slowly.
