Ex-council and ex-local authority homes
Many ex-council houses are ordinary security. Flats, non-standard construction and a discount that has not expired are the points to check.
What this page will not do
- Ex-council is not the same as non-standard construction, though some homes are both.
- A housing-association shared-ownership home is a different product.
- It will not name a lender, a product, or an approval chance.
Questions
- Do lenders refuse all ex-council flats?
- No, and this page will not claim they all accept them either. Construction and lease are the details.
- Where is Right to Buy explained?
- In the Right to Buy guide. This page is the evidence list.

The matching service is free for you. Partner brokers pay MortgageConnector for introductions. If you ask for an introduction, the details you submit are shared with the selected partner. The broker is responsible for regulated advice. Check the firm on the FCA Register.
Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.
These figures are illustrative.
An FCA-authorised broker can look at the actual income, credit and property. MortgageConnector introduces you. We do not choose the mortgage.
