Timber-frame homes

Most new houses have a timber frame behind brick. Older exposed frames, and frames without a warranty, raise different questions.

What this page will not do

  • Do not describe a modern timber-frame house as non-standard unless a surveyor has.
  • A thatched timber house belongs on both this page and the thatch page.
  • It will not name a lender, a product, or an approval chance.

Questions

Are new timber-frame houses hard to mortgage?
Ordinary warranted new timber frame is common. This page will not call it either easy or hard.
What about a barn conversion with a frame?
Use the renovation page as well, and bring the conversion warranty.
