Definition
The Help to Buy Equity Loan scheme in England is closed to new applications. Existing borrowers still have obligations covering interest, repayment, remortgaging, sale and property changes. Other UK nations operated different schemes and deadlines.
Practical example
An existing borrower may need the scheme administrator's process when selling or remortgaging the property.
Why it matters
Do not confuse the closed equity-loan scheme with the separate Mortgage Guarantee Scheme or current low-deposit mortgages.
